2013 Beginners Workshop
on Dragonflies and Damselflies

August 17

Participants learned more about the Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies) of the Keweenaw as amateur odonatist Bob Marr led a one day beginner’s workshop focusing on the identification of these “winged dragons” and “neon toothpicks.”

The day started with an overview of life cycle, ecology, morphology, and behavior which was followed by field identification. Both aquatic and terrestrial habitat were explored as participants netted specimens for study and release and for photo opportunities.
