Sandretto Scholarship

Gratiot Lake Conservancy (GLC) invites local students in grades 9-11 to apply for the Jack and Rita Sandretto Scholarship to attend the Michigan Tech Summer Youth Program Exploration: Aquatic Ecology At Gratiot Lake. Students will spend a week living in GLC's log cabin (the Noblet Field Station) located near the GLC nature sanctuary at the lake. They study Gratiot Lake, beaver dams, and the Little Gratiot River. Participants live the life of an ecologist-- collecting, observing, and identifying aquatic plants and animals, comparing water chemistry data, and more. The program is co-sponsored by Michigan Tech and GLC.

The Sandretto Scholarship was established through GLC by Rita Sandretto in 2002 in memory of her husband Jack. Rita, who was an avid supporter of environmental education, passed away in 2007.

Preference is given to local applicants for this scholarship although anyone can apply. Download the Jack and Rita Sandretto Scholarship application here along with the enrollment form for the exploration. Scholarship applicants must also enroll in the Exploration.
